Sammy Sulphur of Harrogare Town FC

He’s yellow. He’s crystalline AND gaseous. He melts at 115.2 °C. He smells like rotten eggs! He’s Sammy Sulphur – Harrogate Town’s mascot.

According to Sammy’s bio, he is 34 million years old; he lives in a cave near Harrogate and his main passion is Harrogate Town FC. He respects fair play, and the kick caveism out of football campaign – #kickcaveismout.

His hobbies include playing and listening to rock music (particularly Nick Cave, Guana Batz and Cavern-era Beatles), and he is currently in intensive training for the Mascot Gold Cup 2014 at Wetherby. He also likes visiting the nearby Mother Shipton’s Cave in Knaresborough, although he says that he was petrified the first time he went there when he was only a small gaseous cloud.

His favourite practical joke is hanging around in lifts where there is more than one occupant and making each one think that one of the others has farted.

Sammy’s favourite Harrogate player is Ricky Greenhough (Town, 1992), and his favourite Harrogate game was beating Torquay United in the FA Cup 1st round giant killing in 2012. His Favourite professional player is Robert Snodgrass, for supporting the kick caveism out campaign.

Sammy has a pet – Billy the Bat, who lives with him in the cave.

He dislikes all things Guiseley-related (just kidding Guiseley fans- he says he loves you really!).

He’s received awards, most notably winner of the Yorkshire Vets 1921 Tea Drinking Competition.

Sammy is most well-known for being a fanatical Town support and his use of extreme transport to reach away games. Being an air-borne gaseous cloud has its advantages in this respect, as travelling as the crow flies is the quickest way between two points. However, he is subject to the direction of the prevailing wind. He is also renowned for his idiosyncratic rotten egg scent, courtesy of his favourite eau de cologne – Paul Smith Eggstreme.

His friends include the Burnley Octopus and the aforementioned Billy the Bat.
